THE BRITISH INTERNATIONAL KARATE OPEN NOW IN ITS 25TH YEAR WAS AGAIN AT THE
SPORT DOCK AT THE UNIVERSITY OF EAST LONDON.

THE BIKO IS STILL GOING STRONG AND THE STANDARD WAS EXCELLENT ESPECIALLY KUMITE.

KARATE SPORT ENGLAND WERE PRESENT IN FORCE AND TOPPED THE MEDALS TABLE WITH
19 GOLD MEDALS.
THE MENS INDIVIDUALS WERE PARTICULARLY INTERESTING WITH NUMEROUS ATHLETES
USING THE EVENT AS A WARM UP FOR THE FORTHCOMING WUKF EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS
IN MONTECHIARI, ITALY.

CONGRATULATIONS TO CHARLIE COLLINS AND LIAM POWELL FROM UKA (KSE) WITH
TWO GOLD AND TWO SILVER MEDALS EACH.
ANNABEL MOONEY FROM SSK WON TWO GOLDS IN THE KATA AND LUKE CUTHBERT
UKA (KSE) TOOK TWO GOLDS AND ONE SILVER IN KUMITE.
JAMES EADE (SASKA) WON THE MENS KATA AND ALSO TOOK A TEAM GOLD IN KUMITE
AND TWO INDIVIDUAL BRONZES.

A SPECIAL MENTION GOES OUT TO MARK GREEN THE CHIEF REFEREE AND HIS TEAM
OF OFFICIALS AND TIMEKEEPERS WHO WORKED TIRELESS WITH SOME HIGH
QUALITY REFEREEING AND OFFICIATING. THIS WAS PROBABLY THE FIRST EVER
TOURNEMENT THAT WE HAVE SEEN THAT HAD NO COMPLAINTS ABOUT REFEREEING
WHATSOEVER, SO WELL DONE TO ALL OF THEM.
