KSE Open 2012

The KSE Open has fast become one of the calendars premier events.  Abdu Shaher and Ian Cuthbert produced yet another successful event.

Now in its 6th year the entry list was bigger and more diverse than ever, with more old friends from the old EKGB in attendance, plus entries from FEKO, AMA, BUKA,KAIZEN, FSK and many others.

In the kata sections Enzo's IKA squad had an excellent day with 6 golds, an exceptional performance from Philip Clairet winningthe men's senior shitoryu, shotokan and open sections. Congratulations to him on three gold medals.

Mark Searson's Seishan squad also performed well winning all three of the Wado style categories, the Boddington  family wellbalanced with golds from both Jamie and sister Gemma.

In the kumite events the huge Shikon squad made its presence felt in no uncertain terms winning 24 golds along with a bundleof silver and bronze medals.

Special mention must go to Dan Cuthbert who took 4 golds, winning the men's U75k Sanbon and the men's shobu ippon O70kalong with golds in the male senior team Sanbon and rotation events.  He showed reall quality throughout the day particularlyin his Sanbon final, against current champion and close rival Barry Battson when at 2-1 down and 10  seconds to go he pulled off a spectacular sweep and follow up, to score Ippon and win the final. Certainly fight of the day in most people's opinion.

Fellow squad mate and current WUKF World and European cadet champion  Charlie Collins also managed to win 4 Golds in malecadet heavyweight, junior U21 heavyweight and both team Sanbon and rotation events. Another fantastic day for a talented young man.

BKO Red Star's Maddison Moore was close behind Dan and Charlie with 3 individual Golds winning the female, junior and senior lightweightevents. Certainly the top female competitor of the day.

European Cup champion Garrick Eastwood (BKO) showed  his usual resilience in winning the Junior lightweight event, the Men's Shobu ipponlightweight and narrowly losing to Lee Willis in the men's senior Sanbon lightweight final. 2 gold and 1 silver  along with 2 silvers in the men'steam events was a remarkable haul for one day's work.

Many of the Karate Sport England senior squad are off to Odessa, Ukraine shortly for the second round of the Five Nations Cup, so good luck to them.

The men's squad is John Anderson, Dan Cuthbert, Barry Battson and Phil Patrick, the ladies team is Ashley Ogbekene, Jenna Shilston, Shauna Carroll and Maddison Moore.

Referees Mark Green, Sonia Powell will support the coaches Abdu Shaher, Ian Cuthbert and Brad Moore accompany the England team.
